This Week in Awesome: Jan 11-18
January 18, 2010 | Filed in: This Week In Awesome

This Week:
Awesome:

  • Poor little 19 year old Russian WHL callup Alexander Pechurski, put in goal to replace AHL callup John Curry when the Penguins played the Vancouver Canucks. Even more awesome, the fact that the Vancouver media gave him the third star (and didn’t pee himself in the goal!)
  • Gonchar having to translate for him.
  • The announcement that the Bruins would play the Coyotes in Prague to start the ‘10-’11 season. What? Two teams I actually care about? Playing in a place I wouldn’t mind VISITING? Get out of my mind, NHL!
  • Hershey Bears breaking a team record for number of wins in a row(12)
  • Finland Finland, Greatest Hockey Power:
  • George Parros

Less Awesome:

  • Poor Pechurski having his name misspelled on his jersey.
  • Karl Alzner having to go back to Hershey for five games to stay eligible to play there during the Olympic break
  • The Bruins getting Krejci and Mark Stuart back, only to lose Sturm and Wideman. Um, getting a break, u can haz one?
  • Fan in the back of the 100 section at a Caps game getting DRILLED in the forehead by an errant puck. Ushers, medics, white bandages around the head, but the guy got up and walked away, and in a classy classy move, over half of the arena clapped for him and he waved back.

Fail:

  • Patrik Elias getting laid OUT.
  • Not so well done fan tattoos. Good idea, crappy followthrough. We can only hope the wearer doesn’t have a fat girlfriend, or his arm may start crying.
  • Dan Carcilo’s… general life as far as I can tell. (Winners? The Coyotes, for getting rid of him)

The guy who got nailed with the puck was really cool about the whole thing. I saw him on the news smiling and laughing. Hopefully he gets a new jersey though–he was wearing a white one, now covered in blood! And I hope he gets whoever shot it to sign the puck.
