Rehash, Hold the Hash

First off, congrats to @amandafortier for her new post on View From My Seats. It’s always great to see another girl blogger. However, her first choice of topic was puzzling if not downright troubling. Again, we’re hashing out the puckbunny issue.

Now I think you all know where I stand, so I won’t beat that horse again, but here’s my question… As far as I know, this discussion has been dormant for at least a month, so if she really wants the sides to stop squabbling and step back for the good of the female fanbase, why dredge it up again so far after the fact? Why stir the pot?

Also, for as much as Ms Fortier seems to paint a middle ground for herself, I can’t help but notice that while she links to the Psycho Puck Lady blog , she neglects to mention @dani3boyz or myself as she refers to the other side of the argument. Because the two of us are well known sides of this argument on Twitter, this omission seems like either a lack of research or a desire to ignore the side of the ongoing discussion Ms. Fortier personally dislikes. Although I may not be the most moderate voice in this conversation, I believe all of the current positions should be heard from the mouths of those who take them.

I believe as well that at some point, my message has gotten convoluted…or I’ve possibly mellowed a little in my old age. I am not simply anti-person. I could care less what you actually do with yourself. I am, however, extremely anti- painting a whole diverse group with the same brush, and with the amount of attention the press seems to want to give the puckbunnies, that’s what I’ve taken my stand against. Do the bunnies exist? Yes. Are all of us among them? No. But from the bunny-biased publicity given to female hockey fans, that’s all that seems to exist. For those of you who haven’t been a female sports fan, it’s hard sometimes. If people see you merely as another man-happy ball of hormones it gets even harder.

If the mainstream media and larger blogs would portray a wider variety of “typical” female fans, we could more than likely quash this issue once and for all, but I don’t feel that bringing it back up and presenting only one side verbatim can help in the long run.
