Too little, too late

RIP, Alexei Cherepanov.

As a trained and working lifeguard, the fact that word is getting out that there was no defibrillator in the arena has me wavering between disgust and outrage and sadness over this. Every swimming pool I’ve worked at has had one, and it amazes me that I could have a better chance to save the life of a Joe Schmoe lap swimmer than Omsk did of saving one of their most promising players.

Between this and the death of Darcy Robinson last year, the beginning of hockey season is starting to take on a rather maudlin tone, and although Robo’s death was more of a fluke than Alexei’s, I can only hope that teams start realizing just how important having the right medical gear is.
