And a bright, shiny Clear Day it is too, with the Bears roster not showing a whole lot of difference.
As it Stands:
Goaltenders: Michal Neuvirth, Simeon Varlamov
Skaters: Bryan Helmer, Tyler Sloan, Sean Collins, Karl Alzner, Dean Arsene, Brian Pothier, Sami Lepisto, Staffan Kronwall, Keith Aucoin, Alexandre Giroux, Graham Mink, Kyle Wilson, Quintin Laing, Andrew Gordon, Mathieu Perreault, Chris Bourque, Jay Beagle, Andrew Joudrey, Oskar Osala, Francois Bouchard
In residence: Greg Amadio, Steve Pinizzotto, Darren Reid, Grant McNeill, Kip Brennan, Daren Machesney, Patrick McNeill
Now obviously, we’re playing the goalie game again, with Cheez in residence as one of the Bears goalies is going to spend the postseason with DC.
Pothier is the one I find interesting- he’s probably another number game to let the Bears choose from their in-residence guys down the stretch, if he goes back to DC.
And of course, all of this is subject to abject turmoil once the years start ending for the even younger guys-we might yet see the Holtbys and Della Roveres heading to PA after their seasons are over.
As for Kris Mayotte, as much as I love the guy, I can’t help but feel he went a little Benedict Arnold… or Marion Hossa, if you will, as he just got the call to go backstop the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Y’know, those guys who just tied the Bears for the lead in the East. Ugh. If there was any time to slump, Kris, now’d be it.
